🧡 Our Bilingual Journey and Te Ao Māori
Ngāti Toa School is proud to be a Level 3 bilingual kura. This means all classes receive a minimum of 30–50% instruction in te reo Māori each week. We are committed to fostering a strong sense of cultural identity and language pride in all our ākonga.
🧑🏫 Reo Māori Instruction
- All tamariki receive regular instruction in te reo Māori across the curriculum.
- Our goal is to ensure language use is natural, purposeful, and woven into daily learning.
🤝 Kaiārahi i te reo Māori
We are supported by our dedicated Kaiārahi i te reo Māori, Hitira’a Tahau-Hodges, who works alongside kaiako and tauira throughout the week to:
- Model te reo Māori in the classroom
- Support language planning and teaching
- Strengthen cultural connections across the kura
🎶 Kapa Haka
Kapa Haka is an important part of school life and our expression of identity and mana:
- Senior Kapa Haka is led by tutors from Ngā Uri o Whiti te Rā mai le Moana every Monday.
- Junior Kapa Haka is facilitated by Hitira’a on Fridays.
Through Kapa Haka, our tamariki grow confidence, discipline, and pride in their heritage.
