Ngati Toa School
A Place for Learning, Belonging, and Growth
Ngati Toa School, established in 1955, is a contributing primary school catering to children from Years 1 to 8. Our school has two large classroom blocks, a playing field for a range of summer and winter sports, two netball courts, two basketball courts, a swimming pool, a cycle track, and a hall used for sports, assemblies and performances. We are also proud to include a satellite class from Mahinawa Specialist School, which helps to support an inclusive and welcoming environment.
We have high expectations for student learning and offer a balanced, broad curriculum that supports each child’s academic, social, and emotional growth.
In its 2017 report, the Education Review Office (ERO) said:
“The school’s vision and values underpin the curriculum and are integral to students’ schooling experience. Clear guidelines for teaching and learning contribute well to achievement of the expressed expectations for teaching practice. There is an inclusive and welcoming school culture. Student and whānau aspirations are sought and responded to through a range of well-considered strategies. This contributes positively to children’s wellbeing, engagement and learning.”
Our Aims at Ngati Toa School Are To:
- Help children develop the skills and attitudes they need to become proficient learners: fluent readers, confident speakers, capable writers, and competent mathematicians.
- Provide a positive, happy environment that encourages good work habits, strong relationships, self-esteem, and a love of learning.
- Reflect and celebrate the diverse cultures of our students, with a strong focus on the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa/New Zealand and the development of te reo Māori.
- Offer learning opportunities and teaching that help children build the skills to succeed in a digital world.
- Support children to grow their creative and performance skills through experiences like Artsplash, Kapa Haka, school concerts, and other public performances.
At Ngati Toa School, we are committed to helping every child thrive—both in their learning and in who they are.
